What Happens In Boot Camp Workout Classes?
Our Outdoor Boot Camp Workout Classes are not a ‘Military’ or ‘Army’ style workout. Instead, you are gently encouraged, coached and taught, to exercise at the best intensity, and in the best way for you to improve your fitness and health level. There are lots of ‘alternative’ exercise options for you to choose from, or to be recommended to you by your instructor.
All Boot Camp exercises can be adapted to suit a pregnant woman, someone with a knee, or back, problem and a regular runner, or athlete alike…. Therefore, you can exercise, at your own pace (and still be suitably challenged, so that you get fitter and healthier) in classes adaptable for all fitness levels from absolute beginners to advanced fitness enthusiasts.
Feel completely comfortable and supported. Classes are designed in such a way that no one is ‘left behind’ and everyone achieves!

Boot Camp Workout Classes | What Happens In Our Sessions
The Warm Up Section
Boot Camp Workout Classes begin with a warm up where we mobilise the whole body and get a ‘pre-view’ of the hours class to come. Therefore, you get introduced to, and practice and select the exercises that will be performed during the main section of the class. You will get an idea of how to pace yourself, get warm and gradually get your heart rate up to the optimum level.
We often introduce an affirmation (a ‘train of thought’) or a ‘topical health/fitness’ question, to discuss during the Cool Down, to assist bootcampers in achieving their goals and also helps to promote healthier lifestyles.
Those new to boot camp workout classes are introduced to any exercises that will be performed during the main section of the class and everyone has the opportunity to practice the exercise movements during the warm up. We also introduce the ‘focus’ of this session and this weeks ‘Affirmation’.
An affirmation is a ‘train of thought’ to assist bootcampers in achieving their goals and also helps to promote healthier lifestyles.
Main Workout Section
This section of the Boot Camp Workout Classes varies every week with elements of Stamina/ Cardiovascular exercises; muscular strength and endurance; HITT (High Intensity Interval Training) and anaerobic; agility. We encourage everyone to work at their own appropriate fitness level and so there are different options offering you a choice of high and low impact versions of the exercise.
Typically there is a variety of, walking, jogging, running, all manner of step ups, steps and stepping ‘drills’, all manner of squatting and lunging, skipping variations, all manner of bodyweight exercises of varying intensities, for example, a press up using a wall, bench, step, on knees, or the full press up. All manner of exercises with resistance bands. Partner and group exercises. All manner of stomach and back exercises/core exercises. Fitness boxing is popular. Occasionally use weighted balls and kettle bells.
All exercises can be adapted to suit individuals. Bootcampers select the appropriate intensity of Boot Camp workout exercise based on their goals, preferences and Limitations.
The Warm Down & Stretch Section
Boot Camp Workout Classes conclude with the ‘Warm-down’ or ‘Cool-down’ and Stretch section. Slower and smaller movements are typical in this section of Boot Camp Workout classes. Stretching of all the major muscle groups follows which both promotes increased flexibility and mobility but is also vital to aid the muscles recovery following the Boot Camp Workout class.
We often discuss a ‘topical health/fitness’ question at this stage, providing useful tips and guidance to healthier eating, for example… Or reminding you to take a Vitamin D supplement during the Winter months… Or clarifying how often you should exercise each week…. Or how many steps a day is recommended.
More About Outdoor Boot Camp Workout Classes
All Year & All Weather Boot Camp Workouts
From start to finish Boot Camp Workout exercisers are constantly kept moving making good use of the time and keeping the circulation going and kept warm, which is vital especially during the winter season.
Whatever the weather, or conditions, or time of year, moonlight or sun, rain, snow, hot, cold, windy or still, the classes are always on, regardless, (thunder and lightning is the only exception! Not occurred during a class yet). Pay special attention to what you wear, and bring ‘layers’ /water repellent clothing/waterproof top, when it is wet or cold. It is best to get too warm and have to take layers off, than not to have enough layers.
In the sun or heat, keep well hydrated, wear a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses and stay in the shade. Also, we keep moving and can exercise at a higher intensity in the cold; therefore, slowing the pace down when it is very warm….
Programmes run all year round promoting enjoyable ongoing lifelong exercise, improving and maintaining health and fitness for the long term
